On Wednesday October 29th our horizons were widened by a lively and cheerful presentation by Cliff Carter from Steyning. He is a keen club photographer and in 2009 and 2010 he was chosen as a Sony Advocate Photographer.

He began by taking a panorama of his audience in the hall. He took 4 portrait images with his Sony alpha 77 on a monopod and then showed us how to stitch them together in Elements using ‘Photomerge’. He also demonstrated the dedicated ‘stitching’ application Autopano Pro.

He then showed us how to create ‘planets’ using Elements. The patterns created were quite fascinating and could lead one to spending a long time experimenting at the computer!!!

The interval allowed us to view printed panoramas of various sizes.
The evening finished with a 20 minute AV made using panoramic images of the Hebrides. This was accompanied by music and was quite beautiful and really demonstrated an impressive use for panoramas.

As a bonus we discovered we have an inbuilt panoramic digital screen in our room. The images were so compelling that our inbuilt ‘grid’ didn’t seem to matter!
A great evening. Thank you Cliff!
